We did something new this year: rounded up 11 lovely ladies on our staff--plus our shelter photographer--to pose as pin-up models (of the modest variety) for a fundraising calendar. We selected precocious shelter animals to pose with us, then invited local men in the community to join us with their beloved companion animals. With free hair and make-up styling by Jessica A. Pelkey of Salon Elixir (Swanton)--and generous wardrobe donations from The Clothing Line (Burlington), Bella Boutique (Burlington), and local clotheshounds--the "Pin-ups, Pups & Pussycats" 2013 calendar was born!

Photographed by Kelly Schulze of Mountain Dog Photography (who posed as a model herself), this calendar challenged staff to leave their comfort zones and comfort clothes and accept being front and center--rather than behind the scenes of animal care--to promote animal welfare. Most of the women involved were apprehensive (if not downright terrified) about this, and we all found modeling a lot more challenging than it looks! (Kelly's motto: "If it feels awkward, it looks awesome.") But in the end, I think one and all would say we had a lot of fun.

Many thanks to Suzanne Fay of oh!suzannah (Burlington) for her creative and excellent design work, and Queen City Printers (Burlington) for their perfect printing.

We are also immensely grateful for the outpouring of support we received from the community at large for this project--especially the dozen men and their pets who posed--and hope that this calendar brings joy to many animal lovers.

We're so proud to now offer this calendar for purchase. 80% of the proceeds will directly benefit our shelter.

Thanks so much for your support of HSCC!
